Premier Tapas Trail
At the tail end of every year the Torrevieja Town Hall, together with the Tourist Office organises a Tapas Marathon to drum up business for the bars and cafes in the town during what is traditionally a very quiet time for them. Bars compete to produce the best tapas, putting on two different ones each week.
To take part is very simple. Pick up a map and a voting card from any of the competing bars or from the Tourist Info and off you go…. A drink (beer, wine or water) and a tapa costs 2€…you get your card stamped at each bar you sample and once you have 9 stamps you get to vote for your favourite. All voting cards go into a raffle with substantial prizes such as free meals, hotel stays and tickets to cultural events. The winning bars and restaurants get free publicity from the council and Tourist Office for the coming year. They even get the wally-trolley involved for those who might struggle to walk between the bars taking part!!
Its a great way to discover off-the-beaten track bars and cafes of Torrevieja and sample traditional and innovative tapas. You will come across groups of every nationality “doing the trail”, and also bars that look inviting but aren´t competing so if you have a plan at all at the beginning it inevitably all goes horribly wrong, but hey its great fun!!
Having just come back from one such evening, we thought it would be fun to put togther our own exclusive Premier Tapas Trail so you can enjoy the experience all year round. Of course, this will involve some serious research so the finished article may take a while, but keep watching.
